You can make your garden or backyard an attractive spot for different kinds of birds by having a bird feeder. Flocks of birds of varying sizes, breeds, and colours also enhance the decor of the garden. Bird feeders can be placed in the garden or balcony. In fact, you need not fret even if you don't have the space for a garden. The feeder can be placed by the window sill facing outside to allow birds to access it.
A bird feeder, bird house, or bird table is a device placed outdoors to make food available to birds. It usually carries pulses, grains, rice, worms, and other food that birds usually eat. You can keep a bird feeder or hang it, depending on the design. Birds eat seeds like millet, sunflower, canola seed, or peanuts. There are still others that prefer fruits like grapes and oranges. Choose a nice and colourful bird feeder to attract more species of birds. The market offers interesting shapes and designs and you can select one depending on different factors. A bird feeder is an accent to the garden or balcony. Different species of birds get attracted to different kinds of feeders. So if you are all out to experiment, go for a basic one which looks nice and simple from the outside. If you have a big garden, you can go in for two or more types of bird feeders in different corners.
Location
The location of a bird feeder is extremely important. Keep observing which trees and spots the birds are most likely to frequent and accordingly place the feeder. Feeders are found in steel, wood, copper, and also moulded plastic. A medium sized coffee can which is on its way to the scrap yard can be remodelled to be converted into a bird feeder. Drill a few holes inside and arrange different foods at the bottom and cover it up with cheerful coloured card paper and you are ready with a customised indigenous design.
Accessories like hooks and poles also can be used to support the feeder. Bird feeders should be cleaned on a daily basis and well-maintained to attract more birds. Take care to keep it free from squirrels and away from the reach of cats. The feeder should be fashioned in such a way that can be used in all seasons. Keep it warm in the winter by placing old fabric pieces and keep it well-ventilated in the summer by drilling a few more holes. A nice bird bath beside the bird feeder can make your garden look like a heavenly abode. Alternatively, keep a small water fountain in the corner of your balcony near the feeder to complete the picture.
Set a routine to refill the bird feeder so that it is easier for the birds to perch. With these tips, your bird feeder is sure to attract new and exotic varieties of birds and the garden will soon be converted into a bird paradise for you to unwind.
